Don’t get me wrong I think these ghetto names are funny and I’m all about unique, but I think the saddest thing about these names is that they keep some of these children from having opportunities that they might otherwise have. This is really sad. I named my daughter Imani but she is so weirded out by different names she wants to change it. I support her because I grew up hating my first name which is a variation on the spelling of a perfectly good French name. I had to change it professionally because I got tired of defending the spelling.

I'm a recruiter and look at resumes all day. I've seen some good ones, but the one that stands out the most right now is "Fashionetta". Why not just name your kid "Don'tgivemeajob"? Also, a fellow recruiter's full first name is "Teshombrae" but she realized that she got more job offers if she shortened it to "Brae" on her resume.

I'm a teacher and have seen so many "different" types of names come through my classroom. I think the worst part about some of these names is that the parents really have no clue how to spell. The parents then get defensive when you don't know how to pronounce the name...
The newest addition to my classroom: Ja'-a. Now looking at this on my roster I inititally pronounced the name :Jah. But to my horror, the mother quickly jumped up and said "It's pronounced Ja dash a !" Apparantly you're supposed to say "dash" when it's only spelled with a "-". Poor kid.

I work at a library in a predominantly black neighborhood. I don't really have a problem with most of these names (except when it's just totally wack like Oranjello). The problem is when these kids apply for a library card, I ask them how they spell their name and they look at me like I'm crazy because I don't know how to spell "S'Datrious Monte-Shae" (a recent example)

Simple statement, why knowingly give your child more of a challenge by making their resume look like it came from da hood. I read that in some of the South American countries if the state doesn't approve of your name (they found parents were naming their kids after liquor and cars and stuff) they can actually force you to change it. Not that everyone should be the same, but I work on Wall Street in a recruiting office, and when a resume comes in from a Precious, a Princess a Corvoisier and they're applying for a paralegal or Executive Assistant position I know they won't get the job. When you name your kids you should think of three things: How does this sound when they're a child, how does it sound if they're the CEO of a company, and how will it sound when they're 90 years old? Think of how many Alize's and Shaqueetas are going to be in nursing homes when we grow up!

i have a pretty unique name. Especially in my predominatly white high school. Its Latiesha Nicole. Last year there was actually a girl there with my name but she spelt it Lateisha. I love my name, I think its beautiful. I have the most unique name out of my three sisters; their names are Brianne Samantha, Vanessa Michelle and Tiffany Chanice (first and middle names). The most "ghetto" (if you CAN call them that) names at my school are Farahna, Koron (dont know if thats spelt right) and my name. Pretty tame. But one poor nine year old in my town was named Tulah Does The Hula From Hawaii. No joke, it was in the paper. She was taken away from her parents because the judge didnt think they had enough sense to raise her if they gave her that ridiculous name, along other reasons of course. Judge made them change her name though. Cant say i blame him.
