I met a girl at the movie theater named TEQUILA!
My father wanted to name me Juliana, but his guilt ridden psyche caved in after witnessing my delivery and I was branded with my mothers choice, LaTunya. She placed stern emphasis on the T being capitalized and the U in place of A or O.
From the moment I could understand speech I found very few people who would pronounce it correctly as everyone put too much emphasis on the U. Naturally, I grew tired very quickly of having to correct people on the pronunciation, spelling and also having to berate ignorant people for telling me I spoke too properly for them to call me such a ghetto name.
When I entered the second grade and had some clever boy in class manage to pen a taunting song rhyming LaTunya and Funyons, enough was enough. I put my foot down and demanded to be addressed as Denise, my middle name.
No, Denise doesn't have that zing like LaTunya, but it's not butchered when spoken and it's easily spelled. The best part is that it doesn't cause me to have hot flashes when I'm at the doctors office, because I no longer have to see the nurse who comes out to call me back studying the name on my chart like an S.A.T. exam.

Last night a teenage child contemplated suicide due to cyber-bullying. A couple of years ago in MO a young girl hung herself in closet in a town next to me due to cyber-bullying. Cyber-bullying comes in many forms and forums. I know a young girl who googled her name which brought her to this site. She is a very intelligent,well-endowed,spirit filled child of God who has been used to break strongholds in families amongst different nationalites.
This forum was created by an adult-maybe in search for self-gratification. Or maybe this forum was created to promote an insecure area where his/her voice is not heard. Whatever the reason for this- let all of us as adults look at each other and remember it is not our place to judge anyone who has been created by our God. What a coincidence! Lemongelo and Orangelo ARE real! A few years ago, I worked as a front desk agent at a vacation resort in TN...A woman called down to report her sons missing...I wrote the names down (Orangelo and Lemongelo) and gave it to the PBX operator and told her the situation...A little while later, the boys came into the guest services center, and the operator notified the mother, but she mispronouncced the names on the phone (she was a Southern woman with a very heavy country accent)...I was standing next to her as she pronounced the names "Orange jello" and "Lemon jello"...it was so funny! She was embarrassed after I explained how they should have been pronounced...I still tell this story to people...lol

Lot of people dont believe me when I tell em, but I know someone with the worst of these names... worse spelling anyhow. At one time she went to the same church with my memaw. Her name is Shitonya and yes its spelled just like that. The name would be ok if it was spelled ShaTonya instead but I just cant see it without thinking "shit on ya" lol! This was years ago in TX when I was a youngin. Where we lived you run into lots of the older ladies at church who had very unique names. They aint always ghetto though. I knew a lady named Showshawla and I have no idea how the hell to spell that one but that was how its pronounced. I also went to grade school with a kid named Hozay who was not Latino at all. I asked him if he was and he told me no his mama just liked the name. I know lots of people outside of Latino folks use Spanish origin names like Juanita or Maria etc, but he was the only black Jose spelled with a H I ever heard of. Those are the worse in my opinion that I knew of personally.

It was just mentioned but it was on the local news how a mother was upset because the teacher made her daughter cry by not saying her name right. "La-a" the mom said it's NOT pronounced "La A" but it IS "La dash a", the dash is not silent!
